The Conversations Leaders Are Ready to Have

Six days.

That is how far we are from the Surrender to Lead Summit, and I keep coming back to where this all began. A few years ago, Joe Terry and I came up with the idea to write Surrender to Lead because we kept seeing the same moment play out inside organizations. Progress did not come from tightening control or having better answers. It came after leaders let go of ego, certainty, and the belief that leadership meant knowing everything first. When we shared that idea with leaders, there was no pushback. There was recognition, and a clear understanding of where surrender was already part of their leadership and where it needed to show up more.

That recognition is what turned a book idea into a summit. Leaders like Jennifer Cunningham, Billy Beane, and Meredith Kessler joined because surrender is not abstract to them. It is shaped by real decisions, real tradeoffs, and moments when leadership feels most exposed. At Culture Partners, we see this every day. Culture shows up in how people decide and take responsibility when clarity is limited, and leadership becomes visible in those moments. Six days from now, these conversations move from the page to the stage, and if you have ever felt the tension between holding on and stepping back, you will recognize yourself in them.
