ChatGPT Is My Brain’s External Hard Drive. And I Think I Like It.

I have noticed that lately I feel a lot less intimidated by difficult work than I used to.

For most of my career, every new project came with a hidden cognitive tax. Before I could start, there were questions running in the background. What do I need to know? Where do I start? How long until I understand enough to move forward?

That uncertainty was stressful, even when I had every capability to figure it out.

Part of what changed may just be age. Part of it may be years spent studying and practicing surrender. I have become more comfortable taking action before I feel fully ready.

But I also think AI has helped.

I increasingly use it as a place to capture notes, ideas, questions, and half-formed thoughts so I do not feel responsible for holding everything in my head. The result which makes me feel like I have a partner helping me get started.

I spend less time trying to become an expert before taking the first step and more time trusting that clarity will emerge through action.
