Hello, Culture Leaders. This is your culture challenge for the week.
I want you to come up with your own personal purpose statement. We all have organizational mission statements up on a wall or on an intranet somewhere, and we know the importance of organizational purpose.
But do you have your own explicit purpose statement? If not, you need to come up with it this week, and I want to see what your purpose statements are. So, share those with us in the comments. Your purpose statement should ideally be six words or less, and it’s something that should be timeless.
So, on your deathbed, you will hope that that purpose statement will still ring true for you. Think about the legacy that you want to leave the earth. What impact do you want to make? And extra credit if you already have a personal purpose statement. Then think about how your organization’s purpose and your personal purpose are aligned or not.
So, my personal purpose statement, as an example, is to serve God and others. I got it down to four words. And then my organization’s purpose is to unleash the power of culture, to inspire people and businesses to reach their full potential.
So, I can see exactly how I serve God and others by unleashing the power of culture. I serve God and others by unleashing the power of culture because I think it does good in this world. And when I move on, if I ever move on from Culture Partners, my personal purpose statement will stay the same, and I’ll hopefully find a way to fulfill that personal purpose in the next organization.
So, that is your homework for this week. Share your personal purpose statements in the comments so that we can see what impact you’re making on the world.
My purpose is to make a positive and lasting impact by fostering meaningful relationships and driving transformational change.
